The recovery of the entire hospital complex, in a state of neglect for several years, began in the 1990s and concerned first the body of the Hospital and then that of the Medical Hospital, transformed into the Citadel of Music and inaugurated at the end of 2009.
The Hospital was founded at the beginning of 1500 as an infirmary of the crews of the pontifical galleys, and then become a health center for the whole community. The current palace dates to the 17th century. A suggestive elevated gallery joins the two structures in which it was divided..
Used until the 70s, after a long period of neglect, has been restored and is now home to the Historical Archives and the Library of the City of Civitavecchia and preserves important and ancient documents useful for the historical reconstruction of the city and its traditions.
